The John Connell Awards, launched in 2000, and now in their 22nd year are held at the Palace of Westminster to recognise and promote innovative programmes, products and solutions from government, local government, industry, organisations and individuals who have made a positive impact to reduce excessive noise and design better soundscapes to support health and well-being and improve the sound environment.
The John Connell Awards are named after NAS’s far-sighted founder John Connell OBE, who lobbied the Noise Abatement Act through Parliament in 1960 when noise became a statutory nuisance in the UK for the first time. These unique awards, known as the ‘Noise Oscars’, acknowledge the importance of the quality of sound in our lives, and champion vital advances in reducing the negative impact of unnecessary noise and health promoting soundscapes for the public benefit. Over 250 recipients have now been honoured for the significant impact they have made to improve the sound environment.
